This horseback riding trail passes through some of
Ireland's most spectacular landscape, taking in views of Lough Derg, the
Atlantic Ocean, the Aran Islands, the River Shannon, and the
Burren region, a phenomenal area of karst limestone. Spend the
night in comfort in approved farm houses, guesthouse, or hotel accommodation, where you are made feel very much at home. | ||

The Irish horse is renowned for its stamina, versatility, gentleness and intelligence and will provide an ideal companion on this horseriding trail. You will be riding through Ireland's rural farmland with its storytelling famine ruins and miles of stonewalls, through peaceful woods of the Slieve Aughty mountains, and the Burren National Park.

Starting from Woodford, the trail leads through mountains, along the Shannon River, via the Burren Mountains to the Galway Bay.
Every day covers between 25 and 35 kms by horse, accommodation is in farmhouses/guesthouses. The evenings can be spent at the participant leisure in local pubs...
The trek is lead by experienced guides, the maximum number of participants is limited to 15, the minimum age is 12 years. Although the programme is aimed at the novice rider, all guests must have some experience of horsemanship. Total beginners are discouraged from applying as the trek covers 200 kms in 6 days.
Day 1 Arrival. Transfers from Shannon airport can be booked (Euro 30pp) to your B&B in the Whitegate area, where you stay for the next four nights. Day 2 In the Riding Centre introduction to your horse and start with the trail along the peaceful slopes of the wooded Slieve Aughty Mountains and across widespread boglands. Day 3 Enjoying the fascinating views over the majestic Lough Derg you will be riding by the traditional turf cutting areas. Day 4 Heading for the top of the hills we will overlook endless woods and miles of storytelling rough old stonewalls sheltering the juicy green pastures. The sandy shores of Lough Graney invites us to canter along the beach and on goes the train right across the gentle lapping lake. Day 5 Lovely wood tracks guide you to the bogy uplands where County Clare unfolds all around you up to the in the distance rising hills of the Burren National Park and the first glimpse of Galway Bay. Day 6 You will experience the totally different moon like landscape of the Burren, with it's rare and colourful flora and fauna and the stunning variety of prehistorical settlements. Stay the next two nights in the Lisdoonvarna area, famed for the traditional Irish music in its pubs. Day 7 Riding further westwards until you reach the edge of the shredded coastline you will be delighted by the breathtaking view of the endless Atlantic sea, the famous Aran Islands, and the fascinating Cliffs of Moher.
